Cast Announcement for Broadway’s ‘Violet’ Starring Tony Award winner Sutton Foster

'Violet' starring Sutton Foster - Broadway posterThe Roundabout Theatre Company has announced additions to the lead cast of the original Broadway production of Violet, starring two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster.

Joining Foster for this limited engagement are her co-star from the Tony Award-winning revival of Anything Goes Colin Donnell and Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry of Tony-nominated The Scottsboro Boys .  The full cast of Violet will be announced shortly.

Violet will play a 20-week limited engagement beginning previews on March 28, 2014, and opening officially on April 20, 2014, at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway.

Violet features music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley and is based on the short story “The Ugliest Pilgrim” by Doris Betts.  The creative team includes Leigh Silverman as director with Jeffrey Page (Choreographer), Joseph Joubert and Buryl Red (Original Orchestrations), and Michael Rafter (Music Director).  The design team includes David Zinn (Sets), Clint Ramos (Costumes), Mark Barton (Lights), and Leon Rothenberg (Sound).

Violet tells the story of a young woman’s quest for beauty amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s.  Violet forms unlikely friendships with her fellow bus riders, who teach her about beauty, love, courage, and what it means to be an outsider.
