Andrew Lloyd Webber has confirmed that Alex Brightman will star as Dewey Finn in School of Rock—The Musical when it starts performances on Broadway this fall. Previews are set to begin Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Winter Garden Theatre, with an opening night set for Sunday, December 6, 2015.
“I’ve come to consider the casting of an actor named ‘Brightman’ in a starring role something of a good luck charm for a long, healthy run on Broadway,” said Mr. Lloyd Webber. “Alex, lucky for us, also happens to be a remarkable Dewey Finn. The wonderful thing about seeing him play this role is that you get the sense that he’s having every bit as much fun performing as we are watching, and the result is positively infectious.”
Mr. Brightman’s previous Broadway credits include: Matilda, Big Fish, Wicked, and Glory Days. Off-Broadway credits include 35mm, Spidermusical, and The (M)orons Happy Hour: Live at The Slipper Room.
Based on the Paramount movie written by Mike White, School of Rock has a book by Julian Fellowes, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and new music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. School of Rock—The Musical will be directed by Laurence Connor (currently represented on Broadway by Les Miserables).
School of Rock—The Musical will feature Choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, Scenic and Costume Design by Anna Louizos, Lighting Design by Natasha Katz, Sound Design by Mick Potter, and Music Supervision by Ethan Popp.
School of Rock is produced on Broadway by Andrew Lloyd Webber for The Really Useful Group, Warner Music Group & Access Industries, The Shubert Organization, and The Nederlander Organization. Nina Lannan and Madeleine Lloyd Webber serve as Executive Producers.
